Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, also known as Armenian Martyrs Day, is observed to mark the genocide of as many as 1.5 million Armenians by the Turks of the Ottoman Empire. It began with the World War I-era deportation of 250 intellectuals on April 24, 1915, and continued with deportations and killings into the 1920s.
