Oregon lost a courageous champion for education today. Oregon State Rep. Hòa Nguyễn died Thursday, Oct. 9, of cancer. A former Portland Public Schools employee, Rep. Nguyễn worked for Clackamas ESD and served as a David Douglas School Board member during most of her tenure as a state representative. She was an educator, and as a legislator, she championed students and families, putting a significant focus on barriers to school attendance. Her fierce advocacy for all students was deeply appreciated. “Our hearts go out to Rep. Nguyễn’s family and loved ones. She will be missed in the Capitol and by OSBA," said OSBA Executive Director Emielle Nischik. “She was a powerful example of the incredible good that one determined person can do.” ...
