The Oregon Department of Education has just released new guidance on abbreviated school programs in response to the recent passage of Senate Bill 819.

The guidance document addresses program requirements for students with disabilities. Substantial changes relate to updated definitions, parental consents, IEP meetings, and increased accountability and enforcement.

Under SB 819, which was signed into law by Gov. Kotek on July 13, ODE will have authority to investigate complaints and withhold funding from districts found to be out of compliance.

The guidance also includes sample forms, background and tools and resources.
