Kristen Miles

Director of Board Development

Bio

Dr. Kristen Miles brings over 20 years of experience in education, leadership, and governance to her role as Director of Board Development at the Oregon School Boards Association. She began her career as an early childhood educator before transitioning into district administration, where she served as a board administrative professional and later as Director of the Charter Schools Program at Portland Public Schools. During her eight years in that role, she led oversight, evaluation, and strategic initiatives for Oregon’s largest charter school system.

Since joining OSBA in 2016, Kristen has supported school boards and charter boards across the state through customized professional development, governance consulting, and strategic planning. She has presented at national conferences, facilitated statewide and legislative work groups, and designed evaluation frameworks for boards and school systems throughout Oregon. Kristen’s work is grounded in the belief that effective board governance is foundational to student success.

Kristen earned bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Vocal Performance from the University of Oregon, a Master of Public Administration from Portland State University, and a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Northwest University. Her doctoral research examined the relationship between school board governance and superintendent leadership, a topic that continues to inform her work with education leaders today.
