The 43rd Annual Oregon School Law Conference packed its meeting rooms Wednesday with sessions focused on current issues such as student rights and discipline, school investigations, and special education.

The conference offers school leaders guidance for navigating the shifting cultural and legal education landscape. The preconference Wednesday and the main conference Thursday and Friday at the Graduate Eugene Hotel drew more than 830 registrations, an event record.

The conference gathers mostly administrators and school staff who aspire to be administrators from around the state. Workshops and sessions pull from the headlines and real school cases on topics including legislative updates, employment law, finance and hot-button issues in the classrooms.

OSBA, the Coalition of Oregon School Administrators and the University of Oregon put on the conference. OSBA Chief Legal Officer Haley Percell helped plan the agenda.

“It’s really important for administrators and school boards to have an understanding about the legal issues that impact education,” Percell said.

All of OSBA’s attorneys are scheduled to do presentations during the event.
