Asterisks sometimes appear in policy titles to indicate the following:
“Single asterisk” (*) indicates the policy may be subject to collective bargaining. The single asterisk is usually left in during the review stage as a reference to consider language in a collective bargaining agreement and is deleted prior to adoption.
“Double asterisk” (**) identifies a reference to the term parent within the policy and directs the reader to the policy section's Table of Content for the definition.
