OSBA/NSBA National Connection Program

Become a stronger, more effective school board member

Help protect public education

National Connection

The Oregon School Boards Association, in partnership with the National School Boards Association, is offering the National Connection program, which is a service package of seven resources:

The Federal Insider: Get the real story from federal legislative and legal experts. This resource includes federal policy analysis and reports on major actions of Congress and federal agencies, as well as implementation guidance that can save your district time and money in complying with mandates. In addition, you’ll receive details of federal legal cases that will impact the way your district operates, as well as regular updates on school law issues across the country.

The Public Engagement Toolkit: Create public commitment and strengthen confidence in public education. We provide practical tools you can use to build public understanding and engagement around major educational issues, to help you create the support your district needs for success.

The Center for Public Education Briefing Room: Improve your decision making with practical insights from school improvement research. Exclusive videos of CPE researchers sharing highlights of new studies on school improvement will be a primary resource for boards wanting to stay up to date on the latest research. Using research in decision-making will be easier than ever before with the help of this 24/7 resource.

The School Board Leadership Resource Center: Strengthen your board's leadership for student achievement with best practices across the country. This national compendium of practical examples will showcase school board leadership in action. Framed around the tenets of the Key Work of School Boards, the resource center will contain examples from districts and videos of board members sharing stories of systemic improvement efforts. Practical examples of sample vision statements, accountability dashboards, policy efforts and more will make it easy for districts to select tools that work for you.

Meet the Experts: Learn innovative ideas from national experts who are shaping public education for tomorrow. This program will leverage technology to bring the nation’s leading thinkers on cutting-edge ideas and trends to the home, desktop or board room or America’s school boards. NSBA experts, national authorities and leading policymakers will be readily available as the needs of boards evolve and shift with changing times.

American School Board Journal: Stay in the know with NSBA’s award winning magazine on public education trends and uses, including access to ASBJ’s searchable, online resource center on key issues. You will also have access to the Magna Awards best practices database, and periodic special reports on hot issues. Board members and superintendents will receive six print issues a year, plus two digital editions on major educational issues, as well as School Board News, NSBA’s e-newsletter.

Money-Saving Resources: Maximize resources available to help your district succeed. The package includes discounts on NSBA events and conferences, books and publications. Also included is the GrantsQuest bi-monthly newsletter offering grant listings, partnership opportunities and grant writing tips. An e-course for district staff on grant writing will also be available at no charge.

Make a difference: Participation by school districts in NSBA/OSBA programs help support NSBA’s national advocacy agenda on behalf of local governance and public education. Now, with the expanded services of National Connection, you’ll be able to be part of that support as well as receive important resources. Stand up 4 Public Education!
