Monday

11 a.m. | The Senate agenda for possible votes includes:

  • Modifying laws relating to youth suicide intervention and prevention to include children ages 5-10 (SB 563). 
  • Increasing penalties for criminal sexual contact with underage victims when the defendant is the victim's teacher (SB 649). 
  • Altering the commissioner composition of the Higher Education Coordinating Commission (SB 712). 

1 p.m. | The Joint Ways and Means Education Subcommittee will hold a public hearing on:

  • The Higher Education Coordinating Commission (SB 5528). 

3:15 p.m. | The Senate Education Committee will hold a work session on:

  • Studying the use of suspensions and expulsions in early childhood care and education programs (SB 236). 
  • Studying media program standards for schools (SB 226). 
  • Removing the sunset on requirements that students must receive certain information related to statewide summative assessments (SB 602). 
  • Creating the position of School Nurse Specialist in the Oregon Department of Education (SB 356). 
  • Prohibiting school district boards from authorizing, and school districts from using, certain monitoring software related to students' computer usage (SB 594). 
  • Modifying the definition of alternative education programs (SB 225). 
  • Requiring school districts to establish educational equity advisory committees (SB 732). 
  • Requiring the Higher Education Coordinating Commission to establish a common course numbering system for all introductory and lower level courses (SB 233). 
  • Requiring school board members and administrators to receive training (SB 334). 
  • Studying the most effective methods to diversify the educator workforce (SB 232). 
  • Requiring school district boards to ensure that a specified percentage of school district expenditures are paid to teachers of core academic subjects or manual skills (SB 804). 

Tuesday

1 p.m. | The House Education Committee will hold a work session on:

  • Increasing the State School Fund formula weight for students in poverty (HB 2501). 
  • Reviewing Oregon’s equity in education system (HB 2166). 
  • Directing the Higher Education Coordinating Commission to establish a competency-based education pilot program (HB 2378).
  • Altering Oregon Opportunity Grant eligibility requirements and formula (HB 2093).
  • Directing the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission to adopt standards for educator preparation program evaluations (HB 3354). 
  • Requiring school districts to make educator staff reductions to retain teachers with less seniority if the teacher has more merit and is necessary to maintain the school district's diversity ratio (HB 2001). 
  • Directing school districts to provide age-appropriate instruction in oral health (HB 2969). 
  • Requiring school districts to provide instruction on organ and tissue donation and education (HB 3234). 

1 p.m. | The House Judiciary Committee will hold a work session on:

  • Limiting the authority of a school district to become a member of a voluntary organization that administers interscholastic activities unless the organization implements a policy that prohibits discrimination based on race, color or national origin (HB 2935).  

Wednesday

11 a.m. | The Senate agenda for possible votes includes:

  • Requiring community colleges to allow criminal justice courses to be eligible for the social science cluster portion of an associate degree (SB 416). 

1 p.m. | The Joint Ways and Means Education Subcommittee will hold a public hearing on:

  • The Higher Education Coordinating Commission (SB 5528). 

3:15 p.m. | The Senate Education Committee will hold a public hearing on:

  • Directing the Oregon State Board of Education to ensure that certain academic content standards include sufficient instruction on histories, contributions and perspectives of individuals who are African American and to ensure that academic content standards in English include meaningful instruction on literary contributions of African American authors (SB 617). 

5:30 p.m. | The Joint Ways and Means Committee will hold a public hearing for the 1st Congressional District on:

  • The state budget (SB 5555). 

Thursday

9 a.m. | The Oregon State Board of Education meets at 9 a.m.

Saturday

1 p.m. | The Joint Ways and Means Committee will hold a public hearing for the 2nd Congressional District on:

  • The state budget (SB 5555).
