OSBA offices temporarily close, but staff and advice still available
Wednesday, March 18, 2020
Dear members,
As our volunteer school board leaders confront issues we’ve never faced before, I want to take a moment to remind you that OSBA staff are ready to help you through this time.
OSBA was founded in 1946 to support people just like you. We’ve experienced some incredible triumphs, none sweeter than the passage of the Student Success Act last year.
But we’ve also been around during the Cuban Missile Crisis and 9/11. And together we have weathered such storms, buoyed by our shared motivation to create a better future by opening doors for young people across Oregon.
Following the guidelines of our state leaders, we will be closing our offices this Thursday, March 19, for an indefinite period. We are also minimizing our in-person contacts with others to reduce risks. But we are keeping our phone lines open, working remotely, and remain ready and eager to answer your questions and support your work.
One example is the thorough FAQ guidelines, growing daily as our attorneys and policy specialists address new questions around COVID-19. We will also be keeping you aware of emerging issues, such as guidance from the U.S. Department of Education on protecting students’ civil rights, and state expectations during the extended closure in these uncertain times.
We look forward to the day our schools reopen. In the meantime, let us know how we can help.
