OSBA model handbooks and calendars available for 2019-20

Tuesday, April 30, 2019

Model student and staff handbooks and calendars are available for the 2019-20 school year on the OSBA website.

OSBA Policy Services updates the models for K-12 districts and charter schools, and a key dates calendar for districts, every year. The model handbooks provide a basis for creating documents and updating existing handbooks. The fully annotated models offer statements and notices required by law, sample language, local requirements, editorial notes on how to use the information, and suggestions on how to correlate items with board policy.

“Handbooks are crucial to the communication between the administration and students, parents and staff,” said OSBA Policy Services Director Peggy Holstedt. “Calendars assure responsibilities are spelled out and completed in a timely manner and nothing is forgotten.”

The calendar includes a quick reference guide to state and federal requirements and timelines. OSBA staff members have reviewed the Oregon Revised Statutes, Oregon Administrative Rules, federal law and other resources to compile a list of required and suggested board and administrative actions.
