Summer meal program needs sponsors to reach more of Oregon
Thursday, February 1, 2018
The Oregon Department of Education is seeking partners to help expand the Summer Food Service Program, a federal nutrition program for young people when school is out. Less than 13 percent of the 312,000 children eligible in Oregon for free or reduced-price meals are receiving summer meals.
Schools, community organizations and other sponsors are needed to run safe and supervised meal sites, such as parks, school cafeterias, churches, migrant centers or apartment complexes. Sponsors are reimbursed by the program. Applications are due by April 17.
