Oregon will honor regional teachers of the year

The Oregon Teacher of the Year program is expanding to honor teachers all over the state. A regional teacher of the year will be honored in May from each of the 19 Oregon education service districts. The 2019 Oregon teacher of the year will be named from that pool in September.

Regional teachers of the year win $500, and state teacher of the year receives $5,000 and a matching $5,000 for the teacher’s school. Nominations open Jan. 31. The program is sponsored by the Oregon Department of Education in partnership with the Oregon Lottery.

Matthew Bacon-Brenes of Mt. Tabor Middle School is Oregon’s 2018 Teacher of the Year.
