Many students still need free meals after the school year ends, and the Summer Food Service Program helps fill in the gaps. Grants up to $20,000 are available to start or expand a summer nutrition program.
The Oregon Department of Education is taking applications from schools, tribes, local government agencies and community organizations until March 17. The program reimburses organizations for serving healthy meals and snacks to children 18 or younger at approved sites, such as schools, parks, community centers, hospitals, libraries or churches.
