The Oregon Department of Education is seeking public comment on its plans to request a federal waiver for summative test requirements.
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 requires that states test students on their mastery of certain subjects. Under a new state law signed last March, ODE is required to administer such tests to the minimum extent practicable.
Accordingly, ODE is pursuing plans to reconfigure and reduce test length in language arts and math. Such a path requires a waiver from federal officials.
