Torres supports students in foster care or who are experiencing houselessness. She manages the school-based ARK Project, a drop-in center open to all Coos County residents. It provides basic needs, crisis intervention, advocacy and educational opportunities for youths up to age 21 and their families who are facing housing instability.
The honor, created in 2019, comes with a $5,000 gift and an award plaque for her and Marshfield High School, where she works.
