State asks how secure transport law will affect schools
Tuesday, March 15, 2022
The Oregon Department of Education is trying to identify school districts affected by a new law on the secure transport of children.
Senate Bill 1547 relates to children traveling to and from child-caring agencies, intellectual and development disability placements, and foster homes. Secure transportation services are defined as vehicles designed to keep children from getting out or interfering with the driver and any escort people for the child.
ODE asks districts to answer two questions by May 31:
Does your district contract secure transportation for any student?
Are there times when safety devices, such as BESI vests or seatbelt buckle guards, are used during the transportation of a student in your district?
