OSAA alters state championships for COVID-19 concerns
Monday, October 4, 2021
The Oregon School Activities Association has adjusted fall playoff and championship formats because of COVID-19.
At its Friday meeting, the executive board decided to alter some volleyball locations and the football and soccer tournament times to decrease contacts between different teams and their fans. In football, they’ve added flexibility for playoff dates because of a potential shortage of officials.
The board also decided that once a championship bracket is published, a team must forfeit if it is unable to play because of quarantines or other COVID-19 issues.
OSAA will have a webinar for athletic directors at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5. The board, in a news release, said it aims to align with recommendations from the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Health Authority.
