State doesn’t require masks while playing sports or performing

Students are not required to wear masks during sports or while performing, Oregon’s high school sports governing body said Friday, just in time for the opening of fall sports practices Monday, Aug. 16.
The Oregon Health Authority released updated statewide indoor mask requirements Friday. People are required to wear masks in public indoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status, with some exceptions.
Students do not have to wear masks while practicing or playing in sporting events or participating in activities such as musical programs, speech events or theater, according to an Oregon School Activities Association email.
The OSAA noted that although the state does not require masks for players during sports, schools can still implement their own mask requirements.
