The caucus, established in 2016, promotes a high-quality education for all students, with an emphasis on the needs of students of color, and tries to recruit, support and develop school board members of color.
Sami Al-AbdRabbuh (Corvallis) was named as president, Bill Graupp (North Marion) as vice president, Helen Ying (Multnomah Education Service District) as secretary, and Sonja Mckenzie (Parkrose) as treasurer.
“This caucus' strength is in our members’ sharing their experiences and expertise,” Al-AbdRabbuh said. “I believe when our caucus members are heard and supported, all Oregon students will succeed.”
He said the caucus would advocate for equitable and racially just legislation, policies and data measurement metrics that help close the equity gap and efforts to address implicit bias and systemic inequities.
The caucus gained a voting position on the OSBA Board in 2018, and Al-AbdRabbuh will hold that seat.
