The 24-member panel hears the appeals of teachers and administrators who have been dismissed. Six members must be administrators, six must be teachers, six must have no school affiliation and six must be school board members.
“This is an opportunity for school board members who want to get more involved,” said Richard Donovan, OSBA Legislative Services specialist.
The school board member seats must represent different district sizes and can include education service districts.
Appeals to the board are heard by three-member panels that include a school board member. Appeals are heard in the applicant’s community, and panel members are chosen with consideration for their schedules. The Oregon Department of Education pays travel expenses.
Interested school board members can contact their board secretary or Donovan at rdonovan@osba.org.
