Oregon has launched the Suicide Prevention and Wellness Program to support school districts in implementing policies to prevent student harm.
The collaboration among the Oregon Department of Education, the Oregon Health Authority, Lines for Life and local suicide prevention efforts is part of the new School Safety and Prevention System. Under laws passed in 2019, school districts are required to have a suicide prevention, intervention and postvention response policy and plan.
The program is hiring four regional school suicide prevention and wellness coordinators. The program, through Lines for Life, will also offer suicide prevention grants and training opportunities for students and staff.
