The coronavirus closures are also putting a kink in the teacher pipeline.
The extended school closures could impede hundreds of teacher candidates from completing their preparation programs this year, according to a Teacher Standards and Practices Commission memorandum Monday. Current teachers will also face problems completing professional development and other requirements for license renewal.
The TSPC is offering waivers and flexibility for some license requirements for prospective and current educators. The memorandum said the agency is trying to balance maintaining high standards for educators with the state’s significant need for teachers.
