OSBA convention attendees who register by Friday, Oct. 4, will save $50.
OSBA’s 73rd Annual Convention will bring school board members and administrators from around the state to the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront hotel.
The Nov. 14-17 gathering with the theme “Ensuring the Promise of Oregon by Creating Lifelong Learners” will celebrate the historic passage of the Student Success Act. OSBA will debut a Promise of Oregon video showing the dedication and effort that went into passing the act.
OSBA gives deep registration discounts for first-time board member attendees as well. Online registration is open until Nov. 1, and onsite registration is possible the day of the event. Email OSBA Events Specialist Sarah Herb, sherb@osba.org, with registration questions.
The annual gathering offers school board members, administrators and education advocates a chance to network, share best practices and be inspired. Dozens of workshops will cover topics ranging from improving attendance to a school’s role in suicide prevention.
The event includes three preconference workshops that require separate registration. In addition to the administrative professionals workshop and the Council of School Attorneys workshop, OSBA will deliver a daylong session on trauma-informed practices. The workshop will talk about the effects of childhood trauma and examine the board’s role in a whole-school, whole-community approach to helping students.
