Monday, September 23, 2019
The OSBA Board elected its new officers Friday, adding a new face.
Kevin Cassidy (Baker SD) will become board president Jan. 1, and Tass Morrison (North Santiam SD) will become past president. Maureen Wolf (Tigard-Tualatin SD) will become president-elect, and Scott Rogers (Athena-Weston SD) will become secretary-treasurer. Liz Hartman (Lake Oswego SD) will join the board’s leaders as vice president.
OSBA’s election season is in full swing. The nominating period for OSBA Board and Legislative Policy Committee positions ends Friday, Sept. 27, and several spots do not have a nominee yet.
School boards must submit nominations by formal resolution, and voting will begin in November. Election materials and a calendar can be found on the OSBA website.
Positions on the OSBA Board and the Legislative Policy Committee are chosen according to regions. The board offers guidance for the association, and the committee helps develop OSBA’s legislative approach.
This year’s board election regions are Eastern (1), Gorge (2), Southeast (4), Lane (6), Clackamas (8), Linn/Benton/Lincoln (10), Marion (12), Yamhill/Polk (13, a one-year term), North Coast (14), Washington (16 and 20), and Multnomah (18 and 19, a one-year term).
All 20 Legislative Policy Committee regional positions are up for election. The committee is made up of the voting members of the OSBA Board and representatives from 14 regions and the Oregon School Board Members of Color Caucus. Members serve two-year terms.
