Tuesday, June 25, 2019
School board members can explore a wealth of OSBA Leadership Institute courses at the July 19-21 Summer Board Conference in Bend.
The OSBA Leadership Institute organizes valuable training for school board members and offers recognition of the expertise that comes with additional study. The program ranges from bronze-level classes on basic responsibilities and policy to gold-level courses on topics such as ensuring equity.
Online conference registration closes July 11. The conference, dubbed “Summer camp for school boards,” offers vital information for new and experienced school board members. Workshops will cover topics such as board best practices, ethics, legislative action, school finance and education issues.
Keynote speaker John Horvick of DHM Research will share research on issues that shape voters’ perceptions and how school boards can use this information.
OSBA offers two preconference sessions: an administrative professionals workshop and a daylong discussion of the school board’s role in equitably improving student learning.
As part of the conference, the School Board Members of Color Caucus will meet at 5 p.m. July 20.
