Final governor’s debate welcomes public’s video questions

Tuesday, October 9, 2018

Gov. Kate Brown and Rep. Knute Buehler will face off tonight in the final of three scheduled gubernatorial debates.

In the two debates last week, education funding and the K-12 public school system were dominant issues. Brown has touted education improvements during her administration, and Buehler (R-Bend) has countered that the governor has not done enough and Oregon schools need to be better.

KGW8 and The Oregonian/Oregonlive will host the debate, and it will air live at 7 p.m. on KGW8. Organizers are taking video questions for the debate until this afternoon, according to KGW8.

OSBA members have consistently identified revenue reform and cost containment as their top legislative priorities. Executive Director Jim Green said election season provides an important opportunity for education advocates to determine where candidates stand on the need to fund K-12 schools to the Quality Education Model.

“Our students need lawmakers who understand why we should be investing more in young people,” Green said.
