New law will help rural schools pay for high-speed internet access
Friday, April 27, 2018
Gov. Kate Brown, educators, legislators and internet service providers heralded Friday a law supporting broadband access for rural K-12 public schools.
House Bill 4023 established the Connecting Oregon Schools Fund. The fund will provide matching money for federal dollars that school districts spend on internet infrastructure in underserved communities.
The fund is part of Brown’s Future Ready Oregon initiative. The initiative aims to provide job training for students through support of career and technical education and hands-on learning.
