| October's Salute goes to the folks who help bring your public "back to school" each spring.
Personal experience with schools is one of the best ways to build understanding and support for the challenges school boards face today - and that's what the Statewide Organization for Schools (SOS) has been doing since 2000 by organizing Back to School Week.
"Over 75 percent of Oregon voters do not have children in school - yet they are the voting public," says SOS Executive Director Denise Frisbee.
"How to" packets with creative and effective ideas are sent each winter by SOS to all principals and superintendents. If every school in Oregon hosts 10 adults who do not have children in school today for a visit, 12,000 Oregonians will leave their visit with a renewed commitment to public schools, Frisbee noted.
Back
to School Week
will be April 26-30, 2004.
