McMinnville School Board
Key Communicators

April 2000

Key communicator welcome letter from
McMinnville School District No. 40

Jan. 19, 2000

Dear (Salutation),

To keep the residents of our school district informed about what is happening in their schools and to establish additional opportunities to hear their ideas and concerns, we are creating a network of people we are calling "key communicators." I would very much like for you to be a member of this network.

The basic concept is quite simple. Key communicators are opinion leaders among their friends, family and colleagues. They informally share information about the schools and school district in their conversations and, in addition, they let school officials know the positive and negative things they hear about the schools and/or school district. Thus, they help get accurate information to the community and share ideas with school officials.

Key communicators will receive a letter whenever there is a need to disseminate information about something that is particular interest to people in our community. As a key communicators, we would encourage you to relay that information to as many friends and neighbors as you normally reach within the course of your daily activities. Likewise, when you or someone you know has a question, concern or idea, you will have direct access to school officials.

In our first efforts to share what is happening in our schools, I have enclosed information about Oregon’s new school and district report cards that will be made public by February 1, 2000. If you know of others who would appreciate this opportunity for direct communication, please let us know by calling 434-6551 and asking for Ronda. We are seeking to expand our list of "key communicators." On the other hand, if you would prefer not to be included in this communication network, please call the number listed above and your name will be removed from the mailing list.

The education of children continues to be a top interest across the state and in our community. We hope this new communication program will provide a stronger link to the interests of our residents in the McMinnville School District.

Sincerely,

A. Elaine Taylor
Superintendent
