The 2002-2003 substitute teacher pay rates are based on 2001-02 base salaries paid to 436 first-year teachers with a baccalaureate. Their salaries ranged from $24,960 to $35,633, resulting in a rate of $130.59 per day for substitute teachers.
The minimum rate for the first 10 days is based on 85 percent of 1/190 of the average for all first-year teachers with a baccalaureate. For districts with no salary scale, the minimum rate for subsequent days in the same assignment for the same teacher is 1/190 of the average of $29,192 or $153.64 per day. For districts with a salary scale, ORS 342.610 provides that these subsequent days be paid at the higher of the district's salary scale or 1/190 of the average beginning salary.
