In June, 2001, the OSBA
Board unanimously voted to begin a multi-year project to craft a statewide solution to Oregon’s public education funding needs. The decision was made in response to the association’s 1999 OSBA membership survey, 2001 statewide voter survey and ongoing membership communications that indicated the most serious problem facing Oregon schools is funding.
In that year and each year since, the OSBA Board established the association's top priority of working toward stable and adequate funding for Oregon schools.
Change of this magnitude takes time, however, with many forces working together at the state and grassroots levels, and from state boards to local boards - including the biggest board room of all, the Capitol.
In pursuit of this agenda since October 2001 when the OSBA Finance Project Task Force was formed, OSBA has spearheaded a wide range of efforts and networking.
OSBA and its partners in the School Finance Project are
concentrating efforts where they are needed most - enlarging the
grassroots efforts and educating players on where we are.
