NEW: Early deadline for voters' pamphlet clarified

If you have questions about the "early notice" dates mentioned in the campaign and research session at our Bonds & Ballots workshop, here's some clarification: 

For the May 2008 election, the county clerk must notify the Secretary of State by February 26 that the county plans to publish a voters' pamphlet. If your county does NOT plan to publish a voters' pamphlet, please notify your clerk that you intend to have information for a voters' pamphlet prior to that date -- which will encourage -- and possibly force -- your county to publish a voters' pamphlet. The filing date for the measure ballot title and explanation is March 20.

The voters' pamphlet deadline for the November 2008 election is Aug 12 -- the date by which your county must tell the Secretary of State that it will have a voters' pamphlet. The filing deadline for your ballot title and explanation is Sept 4.
