Created by the 1999 Legislature to develop
goals and standards of accountability to measure the success of Oregons educational
system, the team includes a seven-member executive committee and 14 non-voting members. The group convened a summit of 200 political,
education, student, business and community leaders to discuss how education should be
improved. Action plans, which may lead to legislative proposals, will advance the four
priorities established by the Leadership Team:
- Reading;
- Teaching and administration quality;
- Connections for student success; and
- Accountability for success.

Executive committee members include:
- Gov. John Kitzhaber;
- Oregon Superintendent of Public Instruction Stan
Bunn (chair);
- Senate President Brady Adams;
- House Speaker Lynn Snodgrass;
- Labor Commissioner Jack Roberts;
- Oregon University System Chancellor Joseph Cox;
and
- Community College Commissioner Cam
Preus-Braly.
