School Attendance
In Oregon, children between the ages of seven and 18 are required to attend a public school unless they qualify for an exemption under
ORS
339.030. To enroll in school, a child must be six years old by September 1.
(ORS 339.010 and
339.115)
A child must be five years old by September 1 to attend kindergarten. Children are not required to attend kindergarten, but since July 1, 1989, all Oregon school districts are required to offer kindergarten.
