SALEM -- David Beeson, Silver Falls School District board member, became president of the Oregon School Boards Association at the association’s annual meeting in Portland on Nov. 12.
“Public education is the single most important thing we undertake as a society,” Beeson said during the Sunday general session at convention. “It is the basis of our success in every other arena.”
Other newly elected officers are Jeff Sanders (Jefferson County), president-elect; Craig Prewitt (Phoenix-Talent), vice president; and Annette Mattson (David Douglas), secretary/treasurer. Peggy Penland (Medford) is the association’s immediate past president.
Newly elected board members are Fred Marble (Forest Grove), 1st Congressional District; Dave Krumbein (Pendleton), 2nd Congressional District; Kris Howatt (Gresham-Barlow), 3rd Congressional District; and Krina Lemons (Salem-Keizer), 5th Congressional District.
Board members elected for a second term are Francis Charbonnier (McMinnville), 1st Congressional District; Dean Livelybrooks (Crow-Applegate-Lorane), 4th Congressional District; and Scott Pillar (High Desert ESD), director at large.
The Nov. 12 elections left two board vacancies:
at-large and 3rd Congressional District.

The OSBA board of directors consists of the president, president-elect, vice president, secretary/treasurer, past president, two directors from each of Oregon’s five congressional districts and two directors elected at large. The directors are elected at the association’s annual business meeting. Members must attend the annual business meeting to vote.
