New Voting Procedures at Annual
Convention
At the 2007 OSBA convention you'll notice several changes in our voting and meeting procedures.
To ensure that all members have the opportunity to vote on proposed changes to the OSBA Constitution, the voting process has been expanded:
- Members will be able to vote on the governance changes and OSBA board candidates on Friday, Nov. 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Medford Room on the ballroom level of the Portland Downtown Waterfront Marriott. The Annual Membership Meeting will reconvene at 3:45 p.m. Saturday in the Mt. Hood Room on the restaurant level, where members will have one final opportunity to cast ballots. More instructions about voting will be available at convention.
- Official ballots will be available at convention. You will be able to fill them out at your leisure and drop them off in the Medford Room any time voting is open. Before voting, your name and membership status will be verified.
- To be eligible to vote, you must be a current board member from an OSBA member district. Your district must have paid its annual OSBA membership dues, and we must have you on our rolls as an active board member. If your board includes a newly elected or appointed member, please
verify that your district staff have updated
OSBA.
- A voters' pamphlet and issue of Focus on Critical Issues that describes the
governance changes proposed by the 17-member Governance Committee and referred by the OSBA Board of Directors for a membership vote
are being mailed to all members the week of Oct 8-12, 2007.
- Because of the new voting procedure, if you are considering submitting a resolution by petition for the membership to vote on, we encourage you to send that petition to the OSBA office prior to convention so that it can be included on the ballot. That petition must be supported by signatures from 15 board members representing at least three member boards, as set forth in Art.VI, Section 5(b) of the OSBA Constitution.
- If you plan to run for an OSBA Board position and your name was not forwarded by the OSBA Nominations Committee, you must submit a petition to the OSBA offices signed by 15 board members representing at least three member boards by 5 p.m., October 25, 2007.
