The Governance Committee was
appointed in October 2006 to review all OSBA governance practices,
including nominations and elections, committee appointments, the
resolution process, and how the board seeks input and decides business matters.
In addition to studying OSBA's governance practices, the committee
analyzed governance models of other states' school board associations
and submitted its final report and recommendations to the OSBA
board of directors in June 2007.
At the OSBA board's September 2007 meeting, board members voted
unanimously to reappoint the Governance Committee and charged
the committee with continuing its study of the OSBA governance
system and additional tasks:
Evaluate the delegate-assembly concept that the board
voted not to put before voters at this time.
Evaluate and/or refine the weighted voting mechanism.
Evaluate and/or refine nomination procedures.
Propose an elections calendar for board adoption.
Help explain the proposed changes during the 2007 convention.
Serve as a forum for discussing and evaluating the governance-change rollout.
Clarify OSBA board-member roles in new governance structure.
Discuss and evaluate other suggested changes to governance structure.
