WHEREAS, Oregon Department of Education has submitted a Growth Model Pilot Project Proposal to the U.S. Department of Education to replace and improve upon the status model; and
WHEREAS, the proposed growth model will support continuous improvement for each student based on multiple years of school performance as compared to the status model which provides a snapshot where results focus on a single year of performance; and
WHEREAS, the proposed growth model will be aligned with and used in conjunction with Oregon’s current status model targets as defined in Oregon’s Accountability Workbook; and
WHEREAS, the proposed growth model will measure growth of student learning over time (whether it be for students who are in need of closing the achievement gap or students who are already meeting all performance indicators) and will add richer detail to the school information currently available; and
WHEREAS, the emphasis on the individual growth of students will encourage teachers and schools to focus on each student’s trajectory toward proficiency.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE
IT RESOLVED that the Oregon School Boards Association strongly supports the Oregon Department of Education’s growth model application to the U.S. Department of Education.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED
