School Funding
WHEREAS,
a crisis in educational funding is occurring in some districts in
the State of Oregon; and
WHEREAS,
student achievement is being improved based on state assessment
information; and
WHEREAS,
Measures 91, 93 and 8 in the 2000 election would have a
serious detrimental impact on school operations; and
WHEREAS,
analysts are projecting at least a 6 percent shortfall in revenues
available for the 2001 Legislature to meet the current educational
needs.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Oregon School Boards
Association pull together with a coalition of parent, teacher,
classified and administrative organizations, as well as identify
other potential partners, and work with them immediately and until
the 2003 legislative session to develop legislative and other
initiatives to improve the inadequate funding and find stable
funding sources. Submitted
