The president shall preside at all meetings of the association and of the board of directors; shall appoint all committees, including a Legislative Policy Committee, subject to the approval of the board of directors; shall call all regular and special meetings as provided herein; and shall be ex-officio member of all committees. This person serves for one year.

Attend:

  • NSBA Leadership Institute and Federal Relations Network (January-February)
  • NSBA Annual Conference (March-April)
  • Two NSBA Pacific Region meetings (July and September)
  • OSBA Annual Convention and Annual Membership Meeting (November)
  • Fall & spring regional meetings (preside at those attended)
  • OSBA Board of Directors meetings (Nov., Jan., June, Sept. & other meetings as needed)

Delegate responsibilities:

  • Delegate to NSBA Delegate Assembly
  • Voting delegate at NSBA Pacific Region meetings
  • Serve on regional Nominating Committee at December Pacific Region meeting

Chairman and Presiding responsibilities:

  • Chair OSBA board of directors meetings
  • Chair OSBA Legal Assistance Trust Committee meetings
  • Chair OSBA Executive Committee meetings
  • Preside at OSBA Annual Convention and Annual Membership Meeting (November)
  • Preside at OSBA conferences, such as summer board conference (July), collective bargaining workshop (September), etc.

Recommend to the board for approval:

  • Names for the OSBA Legislative Policy Committee (January)
  • Names for the OSBA Nominating Committee (June)
  • Names of persons to serve as OSBA liaison or representative to organizations such as OSAA, Quality Education Commission, PERS Advisory Board, Special Education Advisory Council, etc.
  • Names of persons to serve on ad hoc committees

Duties:

  • Serve on OSBA Legislative Policy Committee
  • Bring greetings to various organizations, such as PTA Conference (April) and COSA Conference (June)
  • Other duties of OSBA board members
  • Work with executive director to:
    • Develop board meeting agendas
    • Coordinate board meeting schedules

The president-elect shall assume the powers and duties of the president in his or her absence and, when a vacancy occurs in the office of president, shall serve in that capacity for the remainder of the term. The president-elect shall automatically serve as president for the following term, even if he or she has been required to fill an uncompleted term as president. This person serves for one year. In addition, the president-elect shall assume such other administrative duties as are assigned by the president.

  • NSBA Presidents’ Retreat (August)

The vice president shall assume the powers and duties of the president-elect in his or her absence. This person serves for one year.

The secretary-treasurer shall be responsible for keeping in a suitable minute book accurate minutes of all regular and special meetings and board of directors meetings; shall carry on official correspondence of the association; shall arrange for proper banking facilities; and shall receive, account for and disburse funds in a businesslike manner as provided for by the board of directors; shall see that the minutes of the previous meetings are read, and shall give an itemized and detailed report of the financial condition of the association at each annual meeting and at such other times as may be required by the board of directors. Such duties of the secretary-treasurer as may be specified by the board of directors may be delegated to the executive director or a designated member of his or her staff. This person serves for one year.

Duties:

Carry on the necessary business of the association, including:
  • Employ the executive director
  • Adopt the annual budget
  • Serve on OSBA Legislative Policy Committee
  • Serve as an advocate for public education on local, regional, state and national levels
