July 18, 2007 Issue

of Outlook and Review
OSBA board members reviewed annual goals and approved the 2007-08 budget
(263k
)
at the June meeting, extending current OSBA services. Goals and department action plans are being finalized for approval at the Sept. 14-15 meeting.
In other business:
Governance - The board reviewed a governance model
that would create 14 regions to replace the current Congressional District-based structure. Each region would elect an OSBA board member.
Draft recommendations
(513k ) will be finalized at the September board meeting and voted on by members at the annual business meeting during convention.
Convention fees - After discussing the rising costs of putting on
OSBA's annual
convention, the board voted to keep registration at $165 (with group discounts) and to waive fees for new board members.
"While most board associations make a much larger profit on their conventions than OSBA, this is not the year to raise our fees," said Past President David Beeson (Silver Falls). "Also, the convention is our hallmark - it's a service to the education community."
Dave Krumbein (Pendleton) said that even if the proposed increase had been approved, the convention is "still cheap" and that OSBA should continue looking at ways to strengthen itself financially, especially since losing the health insurance program.
2007 Nominating Committee - The board appointed David Beeson (Silver Falls), chair; Cliff Kuhlman (Grants Pass); Sherry Duerst-Higgins (South Lane/Lane ESD); Terry Rahmsdorff (High Desert ESD); and Don Bacher (Greater Albany).
