The Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS) is a standards-based test designed to show how students are performing against Oregon's academic content standards

 The what:

  • Standards-based test;
  • Five performance level ratings including exceeds, meets, nearly meets, low or very low;
  • The tests are adaptive which means the test determines the difficulty of the next item based on the item just answered.
  • In 2015, Smarter Balanced Assessment for math and English language arts (ELA) will replace OAKS testing for these content areas.

The when:

  • The 2014-15 school year and beyond: Full implementation of the Smarter Balanced Assessment for math and English language arts based on the Common Core State Standards.
