About the Postion

Sutherlin School District is seeking a leader with an outstanding record in the field of education to serve as Superintendent beginning July 1, 2016. The Board anticipates a base salary competitive with districts of similar size plus benefits.

Schools:

  • East Primary School: K-3
  • West Intermediate School: 4-6
  • Sutherlin Middle School: 7-8
  • Sutherlin High School: 9-12
  • Online School: 7-12

The Sutherlin School District covers approximately 185 square miles, and enjoys the strong support of a family-oriented community. Currently, an off-campus online program is offered to assist students in meeting their educational requirements; this program is already open and planned to be a fully operational beginning with the 2016-2017 school year. The district employs a staff of 81 teachers, 30 classified employees, seven administrators, four confidential employees, and four supervisors. For more information, visit the district’s website.

About the Community 

Located on the I-5 corridor, Sutherlin is a small city just under 8,000 with a small town feel and casual environment. With the inclusion of the outlying area, the school district serves approximately 9500 patrons. Located in rural Douglas County, it is nestled in the Umpqua Valley between the Cascade and Coastal mountain ranges. Sutherlin is touted as “The Gateway to Recreation.” The Pacific Coast and Cascade mountains are only an hour’s drive. Recreational opportunities include boating, water skiing, fishing, hunting, the Wildlife Safari, wine tasting, golfing, hiking to the numerous waterfalls, discovering covered bridges, snow skiing, strolling along the beach, whale watching, bird watching, and taking that exciting ride on a dune buggy.
