Position Title: Director of Human Resources and Staff Effectiveness

Employment Begins: July 1, 2014 (245-260 day contract)
Salary Range: $96,525 - $105,598
South Lane School District is seeking a Director for their Central Office Administrative team. This is a highly focused and energetic team that oversees all aspects of the district. Innovation, best practices and research, and a focus on student learning guide the team’s daily work. The Director position reports directly to the Superintendent and works as an integral member of the Cabinet team. This position directly supervises and supports the effectiveness of principals.
Plans, directs and administers all human resource functions for the District including employee recruitment, staffing, compensation and employee benefit programs, labor relations activities, staff development programs, and personnel record systems.
Make significant contributions to the core mission of student learning including leading professional development with administrators and teachers.
Provide leadership for all Human Resource functions including staffing, recruitment, retention, performance evaluations, staff development and orientation of new staff.
Collects and analyzes data on employee attendance and anticipates future needs.
Supports and encourages the development of leaders within the district.
Works closely with the Business Supervisor and other departments to interface effectively regarding staffing.
Provides leadership in managing employee association contracts, including meeting regularly with association leadership.
Directly manages, oversees, or teams with other district leaders to plan, organize and complete major initiatives.
Oversees retirements, leaves of absence, licensure issues, and other employee related requests, issues, or needs.
Provides support for complaints, conflict resolution, and/or mediation needs.
Partners with other district leaders to mentor new administrators.
Develops and administers the Human Resource budget and plays a major role in the development of the district’s budget.
Contribute to maintaining positive relations with all district staff by communicating effectively both in person and through a variety of written and electronic communication tools.
Oversee the development, preparation and submission of reports required by law or requested by federal, state and local government bodies.
Connects with the community in meaningful ways including serving on a local service club or foundation board.
Provides other related services as assigned.
Preference given to an applicant with previous Central Office, Principal, and teaching experience.
Project management skills including managing multiple high profile projects and tracking details while continuing to direct the business of the HR department.
Ability to develop capacity and pull the best from people and systems.
Ability to effectively facilitate a variety of Professional Development experiences.
Previous experience supervising and coaching principals.
Previous experience in writing and securing grants and alternative funding.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills desired.
Ability to resolve parental and/or citizen complaints.
In addition to the above qualifications, the applicant must possess excellent communication skills, organizational skills, human relations skills, the ability to multi-task under pressure, be a contributing team player, effectively use technology, and focus on student learning in all matters.
Education and Licensure Requirements:
Hold or qualify for an Oregon Administrative License; a Superintendent’s endorsement and/or a HrELP Certification or a willingness to obtain one.
Salary Range and Benefits:
The District will provide a competitive salary for a 245-260 day contract. The placement on the salary schedule is dependent on previous qualifications and experience. The District provides a generous benefit package in addition to the base salary.
