Gervais School District is a small rural district located in the heart of the Willamette Valley’s prime agricultural land. The district covers 65 square miles with five schools and a total of 1100 students. Highlights from the Oregon Report Card for 2012-13 included a graduation rate in the top 10% in the state. Gervais Middle School students also scored in the top 10% on state assessments. Extracurricular activities for grades 6-12 include volleyball, football, soccer, basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, and track. The Healthy Opportunities After School Program (HOAP) focuses on academic intervention and wellness for both students and families. A large number of students speak a language other than English and most speak Spanish.

The city of Gervais is located four miles south of Woodburn and ten miles north of Salem, along Highway 99E and east of I-5. The district includes the unincorporated community of Brooks and outlying farmland. The Gervais/Brooks area economy has been traditionally based on agriculture with a large fruit and vegetable processor. Many families work in Woodburn or Salem. Nearby attractions include Mt. Angel’s Octoberfest, Silver Creek Falls, the Oregon Garden Resort, and the Woodburn Tulip Festival. Cyclists are drawn to the area’s low traffic roads and proximity to the Willamette Valley Scenic Byway.
