SB 454 Sick Time District Sample Letter
February 16, 2016
This past Legislative Session SB 454 passed which requires employers to provide sick time to all employees. The law became effective on January 1, 2016. The process of implementing SB 454 requires employers to make some choices on how to administer the new sick time program and incorporate those choices into an employer policy. But for employers who have employees who are covered by a collective bargaining agreement you are required to notify the union prior to implementing any policy changes that have an impact on a mandatory subject of bargaining.
The following link will take you to a sample letter that provides notice to the Association of the District’s intent to implement the required policy for the new employee sick time law: Paid Sick Time-SB 454: Letter to Provide the Association Notice of Changes of a Mandatory Subject of Bargaining in Policy.
