Legislative Session: Pending Policy Issues

Senate Bill 637

SB 637 requires the adoption of policy related to pest management plans by July 1, 2012. This legislation will require the adoption of Oregon Administrative Rules. Once the administrative rule is adopted, OSBA will release sample policy language.

House Bill 3686

The February 2010 Special Legislative Session passed HB 3686 amending ORS 659A.033 and repealing ORS 342.650 and 342.655, which prohibited school district, ESD and charter school employees from wearing religious dress. This law goes into effect July 1, 2011 and does not require Board adopted policy. OSBA has drafted optional policy language that addresses staff dress including guidelines related to religious dress and planned to release this policy and administrative regulation in this Policy Update.

It has come to our attention there are bills being introduced to this legislative session that may have impact on this policy. We feel it is in the best interest of districts and Boards to wait until these bills are addressed by the legislature before we release any sample language. Again, this law goes into effect July 1, 2011 and does not require Board policy at this time.
