Asterisks sometimes appear in policy titles to indicate the following:
“Single asterisk” (*) indicates the policy may be subject to collective bargaining. The single asterisk is usually left in during the review stage as a reference to the collective bargaining agreement and is normally deleted prior to adoption. Several districts choose to retain asterisks in section G (personnel policies).
“Double asterisk” (**) identifies a reference to the term parent within the policy and directs the reader to the policy section's Table of Content for the definition. This is done to keep policies clean and to facilitate any changes in the definition of “parent” as defined in statute and OARs.
