The board chair should work to keep the board focused on the school district’s vision.
One important task of the chair is to have the board set board and district goals annually. Some boards participate in a formal process like strategic planning, and others identify a few priority areas and write goals to help guide the administration in its tasks.
It will be easier for your superintendent and the staff to meet the board’s expectations if they have been clearly expressed by the board. The chair should do his or her best to see that goal-setting is done on a regular basis.
