How does the district comply with veteran’s preference in its hiring procedures?

State and federal laws require employers to recognize those who have served in the Armed Forces.  The laws provide a preference for veterans in hiring procedures.

Required preferences are the following:

During the application screening process, employers must grant a 5 percent preference for veterans and 10 percent preference for disabled veterans.  To qualify for the preference, the veteran must meet the minimum qualifications and any special qualifications for the position.  In addition, when an interview is part of the selection process a public employer is required to interview each veteran who meets the minimum qualifications and any special qualifications for the position.

Most importantly, the method that you use must be documented in a way that proves you gave additional consideration to a veteran. See our Veterans Preference article for more details.
